‘My Father was one of the first foreigners to buy a property back in the 60’s on the island of Mallorca. It was to be the catalyst that kick started a love affair with Spain across all generations of our family. I made Mallorca my home for 23yrs before making the move to mainland Andalucia in 2003 and I have revelled in the opportunities for adventure and exploration here. ‘Some of my earliest memories are of being in Spain with my granddad. He was a large, loud man who was well-received by the locals and would indulge in all local food and festivities with great gusto! As a young child, I spent most of my school holidays in Mallorca, eating squid and snails, riding donkeys and catching lizards. It was heaven.'
In 1999, I had a strong desire to escape the hoopla of London Town and Mum was also keen to embark on a new adventure, so we decided to find a central base from which we could start exploring the possibilities of relocating to Andalucia. Many trips, many kilometres and many weird and wonderful viewings later, the traditional town of Archidona, in the north of the Malaga province, was the place we fell in love with and where we excitedly decided to lay our sombreros in 2003.
The last 6yrs have provided hilarious anecdotes and wonderful new experiences. We discovered a love of dogs and have hand-reared and re-homed 18! We've been face to face with a wild boar. Trekked over hill and dale with a local goat herder.Sourced and sold hand-painted ceramics to the UK. Eaten fresh figs straight from the tree. Slept under star-filled skies. Created and hosted spanish language holidays and clocked up nearly 230,000kms in our car! There's just been so much exploring to be done.
We now have a number of new projects we would like to pursue which means that the large, 3 storey townhouse which originally captured our hearts, is now for sale.
It's in the heart of the old quarters of Archidona, has been lovingly renovated and has a wonderful garden and private patios with views of the famous hill-top monastery which is floodlit at night.
It is a house which thrives on laughter, good food and many smiling faces. We have enjoyed numerous long lunches around the big, wooden table in our kitchen and spent endless evenings al fresco with friends and family in the garden. Picking lemons straight from the tree for evening tipples has never lost its appeal.
